Athletics Hall of Fame
William O’Connor '51 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. He was an outstanding basketball star who was admired for his courage, sportsmanship, and unfailing good nature, O’Connor, a 6-2, 200-pound forward averaged 14.5 points per game in his three seasons as a varsity player, finishing his career with 1,104 points to rank among the Saint Anselm point scoring leaders of all-time.
In his junior year, he led the Hawks to their first-ever postseason appearance, a bid to National Association of the Intercollegiate Basketball Championships. The squad defeated Tufts in the opening round before losing to New Britain in the finals. With 415 points in his junior year and 430 as a senior, he remains one of the few in Hawks history to score 400 points or more in consecutive years.
