John Sullivan '37 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. He was a prestigious member of the Saint Anselm football team. Sullivan was elected captain for the 1935-36 season. Although only 5-foot-10 and 163 pounds, he was a man of gigantic football talent who starred on both offense and defense. He was respected by his opponents who marveled at his agility and his endurance of the gridiron.

Sullivan was recognized by sports writers as one of the hardest-working players who ever played for the Saint Anselm “Blue and White”. It was said of Sullivan that he was an inspiration for the success of the 1936 season. One writer commented that he gave lessons to fans and coaches on how to play the game of football on both offense and defense. His coach, Cleo O’Donnell, commented that Sullivan would be a credit playing for any team in the country.
