Men’s cross country standout David Brosnan ’94 established himself as one of the greatest runners in the history of Saint Anselm.

Brosnan was the Hawks' top finisher in his first collegiate race, placing 18th out of over 160 runners. He followed that as the individual champion of Saint Anselm’s own Shacklette Invitational, leading the team to only their second team title at the event. He would go on to lead the team to the Shacklette title two more times in 1992 and 1993, taking two individual titles for himself.

Brosnan finished as the Hawks top runner in all but one race his freshman year, bringing the team to the NCAA regional championships and finishing as the Hawks' leader in every 1991, 1992 and 1993 race. Brosnan also took an individual title in the Saint Michael’s invite in 1993, becoming the first NE10 individual champion in Saint Anselm history.

Brosnan finished his career leading Saint Anselm in 25 of 26 events, finishing in the top 10 15 times and leading Saint Anselm to three NCAA appearances. He earned four successive Northeast 10 All-Conference awards and was named Northeast-10 “Runner of the Year” as part of his individual NE10 championship in 1993.

Brosnan was also named the school’s first “Male Athlete of the Year,” the only Saint Anselm men’s cross country member to earn the award at the time.
