Athletics Hall of Fame
Jamie Oliver '81 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. Oliver fastened himself as one of Saint Anselm's best ever guards, patrolling the Hawks backcourt under the tutelage of fellow Hall of Fame inductee and coach at the time, Ted Paulauskas.
Considered one of the smoothest passers not only during his time, but for all time, he remains today among the program's career assists, scorers, point average and steals leaders. His 3.9 career assists per game stands as the 10th most in team history and his 217 career steals established a program record upon his graduation.
Oliver retired with 1,078 points (11.6 per game) and his 361 career assists proved his willingness to share the Hawks success and placed him second all-time when his career came to a close. He made an immediate impact on the program, averaging 10.5 points per game as a freshman and notched 50 steals. With his help, the Hawks enjoyed their first winning season in seven years in 1978.
It was Oliver's defensive tenacity, however, that was one of his hallmarks. Oliver retired owning three of the top five all-time season steals marks, notching 50 steals or more in each of his first three seasons.
Oliver's impact helped the Hawks enjoy three winning seasons, reaching its pinnacle his junior year in 1979-80 when Saint Anselm captured the ECAC Division II/III Championship. Oliver was the Hawks leading rebounder in the 1980 championship game against Assumption on March 3, 1980, a game the Hawks won, 88-73.
Oliver was honored as the team's sole captain his senior year and topped his career by being named the recipient of the Senior Student-Athlete Award, which recognized his Dean's List academic career that went hand in hand with his on-court talent.
