Richard Burke '70 was a senior defenseman on the first varsity men's ice hockey team in 1969-70, but had come along with the program through its final three years at club status and played a key role in the program’s elevation. A former member of the Red Key Society, he has continued to maintain a strong relationship with the College.

Director of Athletics Ed Cannon stated that Burke has consistently been a strong influence in sending quality young people to Saint Anselm. Watching over student-athletes from the Milton, Mass. and South Shore areas, Burke has helped recruit countless players to the Hilltop, including hockey All-America selection Steve Murphy '83.

Currently a director at Columbia Management Group in Boston, Mass., Burke also hired countless Saint Anselm graduates. He is an original, and still active, member of the “A Club” and helped start the Alumni Golf Tournament, serving as Vice President of the Golf Fund.
