Leo Connerton '37, a 1980 Hall of Fame inductee, was a standout two-sport athlete on the Hilltop for both the basketball and football teams. On the court, Connerton was a three-time captain beginning in his sophomore year. He made his presence known through his tenacious offensive abilities, leading the team in scoring and rebounds during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Connerton also brought his athletic abilites to the Hawks football program. Over his four-year career, the team posted a 18-8-1 record. Connerton's senior year was the most successful season of his four on the Hilltop. Posting an undefeated record of 6-0-1, the Hawks tied powerhouse Holy Cross and outscored all opponents 137-4 throughout the season.
