David Sturma '70 of the 1983 Hall of Fame class was a standout basketball player in his three years of varsity play at Saint Anselm. He captained the team as a senior in 1969-70 and helped Saint Anselm to double-digit victories in each of his years of competition.

Clearing the boards for a recorded average of 13.2 rebounds per game, a program record, Sturma amassed a total of 925 rebounds during his career which stood as the top figure in team history until the late 2000's. He collected 1,130 points as the Hawks center and his .572 field goal percentage stood as the all-time mark for several decades. As a senior, Sturma's field goal percentage of .630 was tops in team history until 2017.
