Brendan McCarthy ‘96 was a standout on the men’s basketball team and left Saint Anselm ranked among the top-10 scorers in school history. He is also one of only four players in school history to finish with over 1,500 points and 500 rebounds.
McCarthy finished his career with 1,595 points, ranking him sixth at the time and he currently sits in ninth place. A versatile player, McCarthy averaged 13.2 points per game and also recorded 402 assists, good enough for ninth all-time. McCarthy ended his career as the school’s all-time leading three point field goal leader with exactly 300 for his career and is currently second on that list.
In his freshman year of 1992-93 McCarthy was named the Northeast-10 Conference’s Freshman of the Week four times and in 1994-95, he was named New England’s Division II “Unsung Hero”. He played on teams that combined for a 92-29 record, and captained the 1995-96 team that finished with a 28-3 mark. McCarthy earned Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team honors that season.
