Professor Bill Farrell was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. He had served as the voice of Hawks home basketball games since 1974, earning legendary status both on the Hilltop as well as throughout the conference Saint Anselm has called home since 1981.

Through the years, his unmistakable voice, rich with tradition, has privileged the great names that have played on the Stoutenburgh Gymnasium floor.

But Farrell's history with Saint Anselm College goes well beyond the basketball gymnasium.

Professor Farrell was a member of Saint Anselm College since 1957 and, upon induction, was one of the longest remaining active tenured members of the faculty on the Hilltop. He had served numerous roles and assumed numerous titles along the way.

Farrell entered Saint Anselm in 1957 as an instructor after graduating from Boston College in 1953 and earning his M.A. from Boston College in 1957. He became Assistant Professor in 1960 and later Associate Professor in 1968.

During his time at Saint Anselm, he had taught a dozen different courses, ranging from the Principles of Sociology to Cultural Anthropology. Farrell produced countless publications and reviews, engaging in a number of research and grant works, and had also served on countless community and college service committees, boards and delegations.

He was chairman of the Sociology Department, served four terms as Faculty Senate President, and had assisted with various other factions on the college campus.

But it was Professor Farrell's untiring commitment to the advancement of Saint Anselm College athletics that brought him to his entry into the Saint Anselm Hall of Fame.

Farrell had accomplished much more than providing his distinct voice to Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. Farrell was a trusted confident and friend to the athletics community, serving as Saint Anselm Hall of Fame Historian and Narrator and later receiving the Varsity Letter of Achievement in 1987.

In one of his most time-honored positions, he had also served as commissioner of the Saint Anselm Noontime Basketball League where he was a perennial all-star selection.

The voice of Saint Anselm, Professor Bill Farrell stands as a lasting tribute to the quality and prestige that Saint Anselm College athletics has established throughout its history.
