Matt Cahill '06 was the all-time leading scorer for the men's basketball team at Saint Anselm, racking up 2,081 points during a four-year career. Across 119 games, Cahill averaged 17.5 points per game and helped the Hawks to two Northeast-10 Conference titles (2005, 2006) and as many NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

The only student-athlete in men's basketball history to earn First Team All-Conference honors three times from the NE10, Cahill ranked eighth all-time in league history in career point scoring. The all-time leader in three-point field goals made (321) was also a proficient free throw shooter, making just over 82% of his shots from the charity stripe (416-504).

His 28-point performance in the NE10 Championship game on Mar. 5, 2005 against Bentley was instrumental in helping Saint Anselm defeat the fifth-ranked Falcons. He would go on to win Male Student-Athlete of the Year honors as a sophomore after becoming the first student-athlete in team history to reach 1,000 career points in only his second year of competition.
