Kristin Penney '00 was the women's basketball program's only two-time NE10 Defensive Player of the Year award recipient, finishishing her career on the Hawks women's basketball team as the team's all-time leader with 275 steals while ranking third in program history with 536 assists. She earned Second Team All-Conference honors from the NE10 on two separate occasions and was named Saint Anselm's Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2000.

Winners of at least 15 games in each of her four seasons on the Hilltop, the 1999-00 team captain played in two NCAA Division II Tournaments and was a part of the 1998-99 team that made it to the NE10 Championship game for the first time in four seasons prior.

Penney scored 1,182 career points for the Hawks, ranking in the top-15 in team history. A well-rounded player, she also poured home the fourth-most free throws (320) and the sixth-most treys with 128 to her credit. She handed out a career-best 12 assists on Dec. 11, 1999 versus East Stroudsburg, then the second-most in a single game for Saint Anselm.
