Athletics Hall of Fame
Mike Malio '39 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987. He was a two-way player who started for the 1936-37 football team as a sophomore, starring that year in the scoreless tie with Holy Cross. He was the mainstay at center and on defense who was skilled at tackling and blocking punts. Malio was named to the University of New Hampshire’s all-opponent team and made honorable mention on Bill Cunningham’s All-New England team.
As captain of the 1938-39 team, Malio led his team to a phenomenal success, outscoring opponent teams by a 153-to-27 margin. Malio was praised by his own coach and teammates for clearing the way for the famed Ray McLean and was the defensive key in several of the Hawks' victories. His yearbook recalled him as the ideal Saint Anselm sportsman.
