HOPKINTON, N.H. – The Saint Anselm cross country team competed at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds on Friday afternoon. The men's team finished 21
st out of 24 teams in the 8K. On the women's side, the team finished 18
th out of 25 teams in the 5K.
Men's Results
In a field of 257 runners, senior
Christian Wetzel led the way for the Hawks while also posting a personal best, finishing 104th in 26:14.02. Wetzel improved on both his time and finish from last season's NEICAAA Championships, where he finished 113th at 26:59.33. Fellow senior
Neil Harrington, finishing 151st in 26:56.38, also showing improvement from last seasons time of 27:22.38.
Rounding out the top five finishers for the Hawks were freshman
Gavin Carey, who ran a personal best of 27:17.56 to finish 173rd. Following Carey was junior
Clifford Teixeira who finished 190th in 27:46.92 and senior
Brandon LeBlanc finishing 200th in 27:56.98, improving on last seasons time of 28:33.54.
Several Hawks also competed in the Hopkinton XC Festival 8K race, where the men's team finished eighth out of twelve teams. In a field of 124 runners, the top three finishers for Saint Anselm were sophomore
Michael Katsikis who finished 47th in 27:27.54, freshman
Billy Oldham finishing 67th in 28:34.53, and freshman
Nolan Finn finishing 76th in 29:14.34.
Women's Results
In a field of 281 runners, senior
Cara Morris led the Hawks once again finishing 114th in 19:38.11, improving on her time from last season's NEICAAA Championships, where she finished 130th in 20:43.07. Freshman
Jill Olson finished 157th in 20:10.63 just ahead of teammate freshman
Brenna Woodbury who finished 166th in 20:18.71.
Rounding out the top five finishers for the Hawks were freshman
Gretchen Uthoff finishing 170th in 20:23.05 and junior
Abby Bemis finishing 172nd in 20:25.89.
Several Hawks also competed in the Hopkinton XC Festival 5K race, where the women's team finished 4th out of twelve teams. In a field of 98 runners, the top finishers for Saint Anselm were freshman
Sayde White who finished 16th in 20:47.92 and senior
Grace Perley finishing 22nd in 20:53.86.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday, Oct. 26, as Saint Anselm College hosts the Northeast 10 (NE10) Cross Country Championships at the South Athletic Fields. Races are set to begin at 11:00 A.M.
