Hawks Earn Back-to-Back Shacklette Invitational Women’s Title; Men Finish Fourth

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College cross country team hosted the 43rd Annual Phillip J. Shacklette Invitational on Saturday.

Along with the Hawks, the teams competing on Saturday were Assumption, Plymouth State, Southern New Hampshire, and Saint Michael's. In the men's race, Assumption took home a first-place finish, while on the women's side, Saint Anselm secured the win, earning back-to-back first-place team finishes for the first time since 1996-97. 

Men's Results

The Hawks raced to a fourth-place team finish, led by senior Andrew Keene, who finished ninth overall with a time of 28:48.9 in the 8K race. Classmate Christian Wetzel followed closely behind, placing 11th with a time of 29:04.8.

Saint Anselm placed three additional runners in the top 20 as senior Neil Harrington finished 16th in 29:36.7,just ahead of freshman Gavin Careywho crossed the line at the same time. Sophomore Michael Katsikis added to the team's depth, placing 19th in 29:40.6.

Women's Results
Leading the first-place Hawks was senior Cara Morris, who turned in a standout performance, finishing second overall with a time of 24:24.7. The result marked a personal best for Morris, improving on her 7th-place finish (26:38.9) at last year's Shacklette Invitational.

She was followed by junior Sophia Olsen, who secured a fifth-place finish at 25:43.6. Freshman Jill Olson rounded out the top three finishers for Saint Anselm, finishing ninth with a time of 26:27.4, just ahead of freshman Brenna Woodbury, who crossed the line at the same time.

Also contributing to the Hawks' first-place performance was senior Grace Perley, finishing 15th with a time of 27:05.2, just ahead of junior Abby Bemis, who finished 17th with a time of 27:14.1, improving her time of 28:21.9 a year ago.

The Hawks will return to competition at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course.
