NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Saint Anselm College women's volleyball freshman setter
Mckenna O'Connell earned the first Northeast 10 (NE10) weekly award of her career after being named Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
O'Connell paced the Hawks' offense, posting 119 assists over three matches, averaging 7.62 assists per set. The Bedford, N.H. native tacked on 32 digs (2.46 digs/set), and 13 kills (1.00 kills/set). O'Connell helped guide the Hawks to a 2-1 record in non-conference action this past week, as Saint Anselm currently ranks fifth in the NE10 at 6-4 on the season.
She posted double-doubles in a five-set mid-week loss to Franklin Pierce (24 assists, 11 digs) and in a five-set victory over Post on Saturday (44 assists, 13 digs) to sit at seven on the season. In Friday night's sweep over Saint Michael's, O'Connell registered 31 assists, nine digs, and three kills.
The freshman currently sits at third in the conference in assists per set with 8.34. In the Hawks win against Post on Saturday, O'Connell posted a season-high mark of eight kills on a .444 attack percentage, coming just two kills shy of a triple double. Her 44 assists in the win also matched a season high while tabbing her first career solo block and a service ace for a season-best 10 points.
O'Connell and the Hawks will return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 for its NE10 opener against Bentley University. First serve from the Dana Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
