NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior
Daniella Atherton and sophomore
Samantha Swidorski earned Northeast 10 Player and Goalie of the Week honors after leading the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team to back-to-back wins in conference play this past week, the league announced on Monday.
The Hawks defeated Saint Michael's College, 3-0, and No. 25 Adelphi University, 2-1, in a pair of NE10 games last week, with Atherton scoring in both to earn herself the honor of NE10 Player of the Week. This is the first weekly award for Atherton as she is tied for second on the team with two goals this season.
Atherton's goal against the Purple Knights made the score 3-0 in the 87th minute, while her goal against the Panthers broke a 1-1 tie in the 82nd minute, marking her first career game-winner. Atherton will take her two-game goal streak into Saturday's non-conference matchup against Mercy University.
Swidorski was named Goalie of the Week for the second time in her career and the first time this season, earning the award once during her freshman campaign. Swidorski improved to 4-1-1 on the year, going 2-0-0 this past week.
Swidorski made seven saves while allowing one goal in the pair of NE10 matchups, shutting out Saint Michael's for her first clean sheet of the season and the seventh of her career. Swidorski is allowing 0.868 goals per game this season, the fourth-lowest mark in the conference this season.
The Hawks duo of weekly award winners helped the Hawks to their first win over a United Soccer Coaches Poll-ranked opponent since October 28, 2021, when the Hawks defeated No. 12 Southern New Hampshire, 1-0 at Melucci Field. This is also the first 3-0-0 start for the Hawks in NE10 play since 2023, when Saint Anselm won its first four conference matchups.
The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team (4-1-1, 3-0-0 NE10) will host Mercy University (6-0-1, 1-0-1 ECC) at Melucci Field on Saturday, Oct. 4, at noon as the Hawks celebrate Senior Day.
