NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASS. – Freshman
Peyton Elward of the Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team was named the Northeast 10 (NE10) Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
In Wednesday's three-set sweep over Pace in NE10 play, Elward had a season-high .636 attack percentage, recording seven kills on 11 total attempts while leading the team with four block assists and a solo block. Her attack percentage was the highest by a Hawk this season, with a minimum of 10 attack attempts.
In Saturday's loss at Adelphi, Elward recorded five points on three kills and a team-high two service aces. In total for the week, the freshman middle blocker had 10 kills with just one attack error for a .450 attack percentage. She also led the team with five total blocks and tallied three aces.
Elward currently ranks second on the team behind classmate
Mckenna O'Connell (.267) in attack percentage this season, hitting at a .254 clip. She also ranks second on the team in service aces (26) and total blocks (33), while her 107 kills rank third best on the team this year. Elward is one of just three Hawks to play in all 64 sets this season.
Saint Anselm is currently 9-7 on the year with a 1-2 record in NE10 play, but the Hawks have excelled on their home court of Stoutenburgh Gym, posting a 5-1 record in Manchester.
Elward and the Hawks will travel to Saint Michael's College (5-13, 2-2 NE10) on Tuesday, Oct. 21, for a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at the Ross Sports Center in Colchester, Vt., with the match slated to start at 6 p.m.
