How it Happened
SET 1 | Despite there being just one lead change in the first set, it was a tightly contested frame as the Hawks' lead got up to five points at its peak. Pace was down just one, 10-9, when junior
Sam Pila rattled off three straight kills to put the Hawks up four, 13-9. The Setters answered with four consecutive scores and would eventually tie things up at 18-18, but a 6-1 run by the Hawks put the set out of reach with Frano delivering the final kill to win the frame, 25-22.
SET 2 | With O'Connell serving, the Hawks opened the second on a 5-0 run, leading for the entirety of the set. Freshman
Etta Rocco sparked an 11-2 run with three straight kills, followed by two from Lacerda and another ace from O'Connell that made the score 21-7. Lacerda put the Hawks up 2-0 when she ended the set, 25-10, with an ace.
SET 3 | O'Connell opened the serving in the third set as Saint Anselm jumped out to another 5-0 lead on her fourth ace of the match. A pair of attack errors from the Hawks trimmed the Setters' deficit to just one, 8-7, as Pace hung around midway through the set, 12-11. Three kills from Lacerda and two from Elward gave the Hawks a comfortable 18-11 lead as Rocco finished the job, winning the set on a kill that gave Saint Anselm the NE10 victory, 25-16.
