DALLAS – Sophomore first baseman George Slauson of the Saint Anselm College baseball team was selected as a Third Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday afternoon. Slauson becomes the program's first NCBWA All-America honoree since Robert Kelly '13 earned the distinction in 2011.
Slauson adds another accolade to a historic sophomore campaign after previously being named the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) Player of the Year along with both the NCBWA and D2CCA East Region Player of the Year. He also garnered First Team All-East Region recognition from both organizations after leading one of the top offensive seasons in program history.
The sophomore first baseman slashed .446/.535/.790 across 45 games this season while totaling 69 RBI, 44 runs scored, 15 doubles, and 13 home runs. Slauson ranks among the national leaders at sixth in batting average and seventh in RBI per game (1.53). Slauson reached base safely in 40 of his 45 games played and recorded 22 multi-hit performances during the season.
Defensively, Slauson was reliable defensively at first base, posting a .994 fielding percentage with 299 putouts on the year.
Slauson also made his way into the program's records for single-season performances. Along with tying Ken Kessaris '02 for the program's single-season RBI record, he finished second in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and total bases (125), while placing third in both hits and home runs and sixth in doubles.
