SOUTHWICK, MASS. — The Saint Anselm men's golf team competed in the first round of the AIC Invitational hosted by the Yellow Jackets at The Ranch Golf Club on Wednesday.
Sophomore
Brandon Vitarisi led the Hawks with an impressive opening round on the par-72, 6,747-yard course, shooting a 73 (+1) to rank second out of 53 golfers in the individual rankings.
The Hawks finished the day in seventh place out of nine schools competing in the two-day tournament, combining to shoot a 311 (+23). Saint Anselm will go into tomorrow's final round 14 strokes off the leader, Assumption, who shot a 297 (+9).
Southern New Hampshire's Evan Rollins leads the individual rankings after 18 holes, shooting a 72 (E), with Vitarisi finding himself one stroke off the lead.
How it Happened
- Vitarisi had one of his best rounds of the season, finishing one-over-par as he tallied four birdies on the day, tied for the third most on Wednesday.
- Freshman James Smith and junior Brady Warren both finished the round in 79 strokes (+7), with Warren tallying two birdies as they sit in a tie for 32nd.
- Sophomore Riley Reardon finds himself in 38th place, shooting an 80 (+8) in the opening round of play.
