BELLE VERNON, Pa. — Freshman
Bianca Ligotti and senior
Lydia Tufts guided the Saint Anselm women's golf team to its best round of golf in program history as the Hawks lead a field of seven teams at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California (PA) University at the Cedarbrook Golf Course on Sunday.
Saint Anselm shot a 324 (+40), a new program record for a single round, as they sit in first place out of seven women's golf programs after the first day of competition. This surpasses their previous best round from their tournament in West Chester, Pa., two weeks ago, a round in which the Hawks shot a 340 (+52).
The teams competed on the Par-71, 5,819-yard course, with Millersville (PA) finding itself four strokes (+44) behind the Hawks in second place, and California (PA) is in third place at +52. Heading into tomorrow's second and final round, Saint Anselm's women's golf team has a chance to win its first golf tournament against Division II competition.
