CANDIA, N.H. — The Saint Anselm College men's golf team sits in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Northeast 10 (NE10) Championship at Candia Woods Golf Links, led by a 20-stroke improvement from the first to second round.
The Hawks played 36 holes on the par-71, 6,550-yard golf course, combining to shoot 602 (+34) as a team. Saint Anselm's 311 (+27) strokes in the first round had the Hawks in a tie for seventh place, but a 291 (+7) in the second round catapulted the team up three spots to fourth place.
Southern New Hampshire is in first place at +6, followed by Adelphi in second at +14, and Assumption rounding out the top three at +28, just six strokes in front of the Hawks. Franklin Pierce ranks fifth at +38, Bentley is in sixth at +39, and American International sits in seventh at +48.
SNHU's Andrew Surprenant is in first place on the individual leaderboard, shooting a 69 (-2) and a 71 (E) in two rounds as his -2 on the day has him one stroke ahead of teammate Evan Rollins (-1).
How it Happened
- Junior Brady Warren tied for the best individual round of the day with a 69 (-2) in his second 18, ranking T-3rd at +3 to lead the Hawks. After going birdie-less in the first round, Warren picked up his play, leading the team with five birdies in the second round en route to the best 18 holes of his collegiate career.
- Senior Anthony Picano had a solid day for the Hawks, leading the team in the first round with three birdies as he shot a 75 (+4). Picano followed it up with a 73 (+2) in the second round, as his +6 on the day has him in a tie for 11th place.
- Freshman James Smith shot a 78 (+7) in the first round, followed by an 80 (+9) in the second, as his +16 has him in a tie for 26th.
- Sophomore Riley Reardon is also in a tie for 26th, improving on an 82 (+11) in the first round with a 76 (+5) in the second to combine for a +16 day.
- Sophomore Jack Murray subbed in in the second round, shooting a 73 (+2), tied for the second-best round of the day by a Hawk.
- Senior Connor Powers competed in the first round, finishing with 82 (+11) strokes and a pair of birdies.
