Martinez Wins Individual Title, Women's Cross Country Places Third at NE10 Championship

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Junior Anyelina Martinez (Lawrence, Mass.) finished in first place at the Northeast-10 Championship Meet on Sunday, becoming the first ever Saint Anselm women's cross country student-athlete to take home the individual title. As a team, Saint Anselm took home third place out of 11 teams.

  • Saint Anselm competes next in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship on November 9th in Rochester, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Martinez became the first individual champion in Saint Anselm program history. The junior came in first place in the field of 94 runners with a program record-breaking time of 21:45.38, 20-seconds before the next runner.
  • Also finishing in the top 10 overall was senior Nora Conway (Stoneham, Mass.), who came in 10th place with a time of 23:02.24.
  • Two seconds behind and taking 11th place was senior Ava O'Donnell (Raynham, Mass.) with a personal-best time of 23:04.11.
  • Next across the finish line for Saint Anselm was sophomore Sophia Olsen (Rochester, N.H.), who earned 25th place with a time of 24:26.75. That time set a new personal best by 18 seconds.
  • Two more Hawks closely followed and took 34th and 35th places. Junior Grace Perley (North Conway, N.H.) grabbed 34th with a time of 24:59.81, another personal best, while sophomore Lauren-Kate Garceau (Fairfield, Vt.) took 35th with a time of 25:07.37 and shaved almost a minute off her previous personal best.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Martinez became the first Hawk to win an individual title at the NE10 Championship and also broke the previous women's 6K school record.
  • Martinez, Conway and O'Donnell all earned All-Conference accolades following their performance on the day.
  • Five of the top six runners for Saint Anselm set new personal best times.
