PREVIEW: Baseball wraps up home slate with four-game series against Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team is set for a four-game Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division series against Bentley University, starting on Thursday, Apr. 27 and running through Saturday, Apr. 29, from Sullivan Park.

The Hawks will honor seniors Dylan Bedder (New Providence, N.J.), Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.), Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.), John Donovan (Lowell, Mass.), Brady Doran (Seneca, S.C.), Taylor French (Goffstown, N.H.), Harry MacKinlay (Norwell, Mass.), Travis MacMurdo (Tewksbury, Mass.), Mark Monahan (Quincy, Mass.), Avery Mosseau (Bedford, N.H.), Will Panarello (Barrington, R.I.), Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.), Joe Sgobbo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), and graduate student Shawn Morrow (Melrose, Mass.) in a pregame Senior Day ceremony prior to the first pitch of Saturday's contest.

The Hawks dropped three-of-four games to American International College on Apr. 21 and Apr. 22 with Saint Anselm registering a 13-2 win in the final game of the series. The Hawks own a 10-28 record with a 6-10 mark in conference play. After concluding their home slate against the Falcons, Saint Anselm is slated to wrap up their 2023 regular season at Assumption University, starting on Thursday, May 4.

The Falcons took a non-conference game from the College of Saint Rose on Apr. 25 which pushed the team to 16-18 on the season. Bentley enters the four-game series against the Hawks with a 5-11 record in conference games. Following the trip to the Queen City, Bentley will host Saint Michael's College to conclude its regular season, starting on Friday, May 5.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Doran leads the Hawks with a .277 batting average this season, just edging junior Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) who is second at .275.
  • Borrelli is the Hawks leader with 37 hits in 2023 with Williams and Collins following closely with 36 hits apiece.
  • Junior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) needs just seven hits to reach 100 for his collegiate career. The junior recorded his first multi-home run game in fourth game of the series with the Yellow Jackets.
  • Borrelli and Panarello are tied for the Hawks lead with seven home runs this season, leading a squad that has slugged 37 on the season, which is third in the NE10.
  • Panarello leads the squad with 28 runs batted in while Borrelli follows closely with 27. Clough and Doran are tied for third with 20 RBIs each.
  • Borrelli and Pierro are tied for the Hawks lead with 24 runs scored apiece with Collins, Clough, Panarello, and Doran all having 19 or more runs scored this season.
  • Junior Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill, Mass.) has started a team-high 10 games this season. Vaughan owns a 5.95 earned-run average in a team-high 56.0 innings pitched. Sophomore Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) has made eight starts which is second most on the squad.
  • French leads the squad with 12 appearances on the mound while juniors Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) and Hunter Harris (Altamont, N.Y.) have made 11 appearances apiece, which are second most on the team.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • Stan DeMartinis III leads the Falcons offense with 37 hits this season, leading a group that has six student-athletes with 30 or more hits this season.
  • DeMartinis III has scored a team-high 43 runs and driven in 41 while slugging 10 home runs in 2023. 21 of his 37 hits have gone for extra bases as DeMartinis III has collected 10 doubles and one triple to go with the 10 big flies.
  • DeMartinis III is third in the NE10 in home runs while ranking fourth in runs batted in.
  • Tommy Bolton is the Bentley leader with a .372 batting average this season.
  • Brandon Ostiguy has started a team-high nine games on the mound for the Falcons. Ostiguy has totaled 41.1 innings pitched and has fanned 37 batters which ranks second on the team.
  • Ryan Glupe and Pat Heber have recorded seven and six starts apiece. Heber leads Bentley with 43 strikeouts this season.
  • Sean Mahan and Steve Hardiman have made 10 appearances on the bump for the Falcons this season, which are tied for the most on the roster.

  • The Hawks and Falcons have met 144 times in the all-time series. Bentley owns a 92-51-1 record against Saint Anselm in baseball.
  • Saint Anselm took three-of-four from Bentley in the regular season series in 2022 as the Hawks grabbed a 13-7 win on Apr. 1, 2022 before sweeping a doubleheader on Apr. 2, 2022 by 6-4 and 8-6 scores. Bentley concluded the series with a 13-5 win on Apr. 3, 2022.
