PREVIEW: Baseball to play five games in five days against nationally-regarded Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team is set for a five-game week against Franklin Pierce University.

The single game on Wednesday, Apr. 12 will be a non-conference game from Rindge, N.H. before the four-game Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division series starts on Friday, Apr. 14 and running through Sunday, Apr. 16 from Sullivan Park.

The Hawks took three of four games from Saint Michael's College on Apr. 7 and Apr. 8, which pushed the team to 7-22 on the season and 3-5 in NE10 games. Following the five-game series with the Ravens, the Hawks are scheduled to play their four-game conference series against American International College from Friday, Apr. 21 through Sunday, Apr. 23.

The Ravens moved to 19-9 overall and 7-1 in conference play after winning three of four contests at Bentley on Apr. 7 and Apr. 8. After making the trip to the Queen City, Franklin Pierce will host Assumption University for a four-game series starting on Friday, Apr. 21.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Junior Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) has reached base safely in 20 consecutive games which is the longest for any Saint Anselm student-athlete this season.
  • Williams is leading the Hawks offense with a .301 batting average, collecting 28 hits which is second most on the roster. Williams is also the Hawks top base stealer and sits at 11-for-12 in stolen base attempts.
  • Senior Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) has hit safely in each of the team's last eight games, bringing him up to a .264 batting average which is second on the squad. Borrelli leads the team with 29 hits this season and is second on the roster with 18 runs batted in.
  • Senior Will Panarello (Barrington, R.I.) leads the Hawks with 21 runs batted in and six home runs. As a team, Saint Anselm has slugged 26 homers which is fourth in the conference.
  • The Hawks have eight student-athletes with 20 or more hits and 10 or more runs batted in through 29 games this season.
  • Senior Brady Doran (Seneca, S.C.) is one of those eight student-athletes and he needs just four hits to reach 100 for his career.
  • Junior Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) lead the Saint Anselm pitching staff with eight and seven starts apiece. Vaughan and Betty rank one and two on the Hawks roster in innings pitched at 44.1 and 31.2 each respectively.
  • Senior Taylor French (Goffstown, N.H.) has made a team-high 10 appearances, three of which have been starts. Juniors Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) and Hunter Harris (Altamont, N.Y.) have both made eight appearances on the mound for the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm is seventh in the NE10 with a .958 fielding percentage this season. The team has committed 41 errors in 983 total chances.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • The Ravens are ranked No. 22 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II National Poll and are receiving votes in Monday's edition of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II National Poll.
  • Ian Battipaglia leads the Ravens with 36 hits while Joseph Pesce and Jose Savinon follow with 31 apiece. Battipaglia is the Franklin Pierce leader with a .379 batting average this season.
  • Savinon is tied for the team lead with three home runs, joined by Jake Miller. Savinon leads the Ravens with 22 runs batted in through 28 games played.
  • Julien Monks and Pesce are tied for second with 21 runs batted in apiece.
  • Joel Lara is 19-for-20 in stolen bases for Franklin Pierce this season. His 19 stolen bases rank second in the conference.
  • Kyle Roche, Chaz Powell, and Hunter Reynolds have drawn seven starts each on the mound for the Ravens. Roche is 6-0 with a total of 40.1 innings pitched while Powell and Reynolds are both 4-2 with 38.2 and 36.1 innings pitched respectively.
  • Brian Hadden and Sean Foody have made 10 and nine appearances for Franklin Pierce, all in relief.
  • The Ravens defense sits in fifth in the conference with a .960 fielding percentage. The team has had 886 chances and has committed 35 errors.

  • The Hawks and Ravens have met 66 times in the all-time baseball series. Franklin Pierce is 51-14-1 against Saint Anselm.
  • Last season, the Hawks took game one of the four game conference series by an 11-6 score on Apr. 15 but the Ravens responded with wins by scores of 21-2, 12-5, and 11-7 in the final three games.
