MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team opens its Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division schedule with a four-game series against crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire.
The teams will play one nine-inning game on both Wednesday, Mar. 29 and Thursday, Mar. 30 before wrapping up the series on Sunday, Apr. 2 with a pair of seven-inning games. Wednesday and Thursday's games are slated for 3:30 p.m. starts while Sunday's twinbill will begin at 12 p.m. All four games are scheduled to be played at Penmen Field on the campus of Southern New Hampshire.

The Hawks dropped a pair of non-league games to Le Moyne College on Mar. 24 from the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. Saint Anselm sits at 4-17 on the season and will host Saint Michael's College in a pair of NE10 Northeast Division doubleheaders on Friday, Apr. 7 and Saturday, Apr. 8.
The Penmen took all four games of its conference opening series against American International College on Mar. 24 and Mar. 26. With the sweep, Southern New Hampshire improves to 15-8 overall and 4-0 in conference contests. The team will head to Assumption University for a pair of NE10 doubleheaders on Saturday, Apr. 8.
HAWKS NOTES
- Junior Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) has recorded at least one hit in each of the team's last five games and has posted a hit in 11 of the last 12 games he has appeared in.
- Williams is the Hawks leader with a .297 batting average, collecting 19 hits in 64 at-bats. The junior has been credited six runs batted in and is a perfect nine-for-nine in stolen bases.
- Senior Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.) is tied with Williams for the team lead at 19 hits. Collins is second on the squad with a .253 batting average. Collins is third on Hawks roster with three home runs and is tied for third on the squad with nine runs batted in.
- Six other Saint Anselm student-athletes have recorded double-digit hits this season including sophomore Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Will Panarello (Barrington, R.I.).
- Scolaro and Panarello are tied for the Hawks lead with four home runs apiece. Panarello has driven in a team-high 15 runs while Scolaro is second with 12.
- Senior Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) leads the team with 15 runs scored this season. With four hits, Pierro can reach the 100-career hits mark.
- Junior Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) have started six and five games each on the mound for the Hawks. Vaughan leads the team with 31.2 innings pitch and in strikeouts with 34 while Betty is second with 21.2 innings pitched.
- Senior John Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) is the Hawks leader in wins with two. Donovan has struck out 21 batters in 14.1 innings of work. Senior Taylor French (Goffstown, N.H.) has collected a team-high two saves in eight appearances, which also leads the team.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
- The Penmen are currently receiving votes in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II polls.
- Nick Schwartz ranks second in the NE10 with a .442 batting average this season. Schwartz leads the Penmen roster with 34 hits and is second home runs (3) and runs batted in (22). 13 of Schwartz's hits have gone for extra bases this season.
- Mike La Rocca is second on the squad with a .371 batting average. La Rocca is tied for third in conference with five home runs while sitting in the lead with 28 RBIs.
- Danniel Rivera and Cam Caraher are both batting over .320 on the season and have started in all 23 games for Southern New Hampshire.
- Jeffrey Praml and Josh Roberge have started six games apiece for the Penmen. Praml owns a 2.03 earned-run average with a 5-1 record in a team-high 40.0 innings pitched this season. Roberge is second on the team in innings pitched at 30.1 George Welch has fanned a team-high 37 batters in five starts this season.
- Frankie Sanchez, Trevor Anibal, and Griffin Gilbert have made six appearances, all in relief, each in 2023. Sanchez and Anibal have collected one save apiece.
ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
- The Hawks and Penmen have met 140 times in the all-times series. Southern New Hampshire is 87-53 against Saint Anselm in baseball.
- After playing six times in 2022, the programs met for the first time in 2023 on Mar. 23. Saint Anselm slugged four home runs in that contest from Franklin Pierce University on their way to a 12-7 win.
- In the last seven meeting between the two programs, Southern New Hampshire holds a slight 4-3 edge, dating back to Mar. 30, 2022.
