The Hawks split their weekend series with now No. 14 Southern New Hampshire University. The Penmen captured wins in games one and four of the series but Saint Anselm grabbed a pair of wins in the middle contests of the series. After heading to Franklin Pierce, the Hawks are set for another weekend series at Saint Michael's College on Saturday, Apr. 23 and Sunday, Apr. 24.
The Ravens dropped three of four to Assumption University to open April, grabbing a win in the series finale. The team swept a doubleheader from the College of Saint Rose on Apr. 13 by 20-10 and 9-2 scores. Franklin Pierce is currently the No. 5 team in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region poll. After hosting the Hawks, the Ravens head to Stonehill college for four games on Friday, Apr. 22, Saturday, Apr. 23, and Sunday, Apr. 24.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks snapped a 26-game losing streak to the Penmen with a win on Apr. 8, posting a 13-11 win in the nine inning contest. Saint Anselm grabbed a win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader which marks the first time since the 2012 season that the Hawks have won consecutive games over the Penmen in the same season.
- In the series with Southern New Hampshire, Saint Anselm batted .281 (36-128) while scoring 35 runs. The team launched nine home runs, led by senior Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) who hit two homers each.
- Senior Kyle Maurice (Exeter, N.H.) led the Hawks offense, batting an even .500 in the four-game series on eight hits in 16 at-bats. Maurice scored seven times and drove in three runs with one home run. Maurice enters play at Franklin Pierce riding an 11-game hitting streak.
- On the season, Maurice ranks fourth in the NE10 with a .396 batting average. He is also ranks fourth in runs batted in (31) and is tied for second with seven home runs.
- Borrelli had reached base safely in 24 consecutive games entering the final game against Southern New Hampshire. That was the longest streak in a single season since the 2013 season when Robert Kelly '13 reached in 31 consecutive games.
- Sophomore Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) drove in a team-high five runs against Southern New Hampshire while Pierro and sophomore Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) followed closely with four runs batted in each.
- Junior Dylan Bedder (New Providence, N.J.), freshman Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore Matthew Michel (Haverhill, Mass.), and junior John Dovovan (Lowell, Mass.) drew starts on the mound for the Hawks, part of a pitching staff that saw 11 student-athletes make an appearance against Southern New Hampshire.
- Bedder ranks fourth in the NE10 with 52 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched. Bedder leads the starters with a 5.40 earned-run average. Donovan leads the team with eight starts this season while Betty and Bedder have made seven. Betty leads the Hawks pitching staff with 35.1 innings pitched this season. Michel owns a 3-1 record for Saint Anselm in six starts.
- Junior Avery Mosseau (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) have made a team-high nine appearances each this season. Mosseau owns a 4.05 earned-run average in 20.0 innings pitched while Hunter sits at 4.30 in 23.0 innings of work. Mosseau has two saves with a 1-1 record while Hunter is 2-0.
- The Hawks defense is operating at a .968 fielding percentage, committing 31 errors in 981 chances. Borrelli leads Saint Anselm with 188 chances while Maurice owns an unblemished fielding percentage in 109 chances.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
- After winning eight contests in a row, the Ravens suffered three losses to Assumption University between Apr. 2 and Apr. 3. However, the team posted a win in series finale and a doubleheader sweep of Saint Rose to enter play on Friday riding a three-game win streak.
- Randy Flores leads the Ravens with a .367 batting average, collecting 22 hits in 60 at-bats through 17 games played. Flores is tied for the team-lead with five doubles this season and ranks second on the squad with 11 stolen bases.
- Charles Lebron has played in all 24 games this season and is batting .323 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in. Lebron's batting average is second highest on the team.
- Ian Battipaglia is tied for the Ravens lead with 20 runs scored while leading the squad with 23 runs batted in. Battipaglia ranks second on the team with 29 hits in 93 at-bats, good for a .312 batting average.
- Patrick Hannon and Kyle Roche have started six games each for the Ravens. Hannon is 4-0 in 39.0 innings pitched with a 2.31 earned-run average and 42 strikeouts. Roche has a 1.73 earned-run average in 36.1 innings pitched. Roche owns a 3-0 record and has fanned a team-high 49 batters which is fifth most in the NE10.
- Hunter Reynolds and Jake Ursillo have made nine appearances each on the mound. Ursillo is 2-2 with two saves in 16.1 innings pitched. Reynolds has a team-low 1.50 earned-run average in 12.0 innings pitched.
- The Ravens defense has 38 errors in 833 chances, good for a .954 fielding percentage. Jake Miller has 166 chances this season with four errors while Jethro Hurt has a 1.000 fielding percentage on 50 chances.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE
- Upon conclusion of the four-game series, the programs will have met 66 times. Currently, Franklin Pierce in 48-13-1 against Saint Anselm all-time.
- In 2021, the Ravens took two of three from the Hawks including a doubleheader sweep on May 8, marking the last time the two programs met. Saint Anselm won a non-conference matchup earlier in the season in Rindge, N.H. by a 9-4 score.
- The non-conference win snapped a 17-game win streak for the Ravens which started on Apr. 9, 2014.
