SOUTHWICK, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's golf team opened play at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, finishing day one action in sixth place out of seven teams.
Competing in its first varsity season of women's golf, Saint Anselm produced a first-round score of 398. The second and final day of competition at the Ranch Golf Club is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Freshman Lydia Tufts (Auburn, N.H.) led Saint Anselm with a 91 through the first 18 holes of action. She was followed by sophomore Nicole Butkus (North Hampton, N.H.), who carded a 93 to place in the top 25 of the field.
Senior Annabelle Smith (Paxton, Mass.) shot a 100 for the Hawks. Freshman Abby McGonigle (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the field of Hawks golfers with a 114.
Adelphi's Ilaria Ponziani shot a 69 to open her round. Three-time defending champion Franklin Pierce is atop the team leaderboard exiting the weekend.
