PREVIEW: Women's soccer heads to American International

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team travels to American International College on Saturday, Oct. 9, concluding a three-match stretch against regionally-ranked opponents.

Saint Anselm fell to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday by a 3-1 score. Freshman Alyssa McColl (Stoughton, Mass.) tallied her first-career goal in the 26th minute giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Ultimately, Franklin Pierce would tally three second-half goals to grab the Northeast-10 Conference win. Saint Anselm is now 5-3-1 on the season with a 3-3-1 record in NE10 play. They are off for a week before Pace comes to the Hilltop for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 16.

American International fell to Adelphi by a 1-0 score on Saturday, Oct. 2. Olivia Sousa stopped three of four shots on goal in the losing effort. They are now 4-3-1 overall with a 2-3 record in conference games. After hosting the Hawks, the Yellow Jackets head to Saint Rose on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Fans attending the match at Ronald J. Abdow Field are expected to familiarize themselves with the American International spectator policy.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • In the last time out, the Hawks held a 23-6 advantage over the Ravens including an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. Franklin Pierce registered three goals in just over 12 minutes of game time to come away with the 3-1 win.
  • McColl becomes the ninth goal scorer for the Hawks, who have scored 13 goals this season. Sophomore Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) leads the team with three goals while junior Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) and freshman Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.) have two each.
  • Senior Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.) leads Saint Anselm with three assists which puts her in a tie for third in the conference. Wnek is the lone other student-athlete with multiple assists.
  • Junior Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) is 5-3-1 on the season, allowing nine goals on 31 shots on frame for a 0.96 goals against average and a .719 save percentage. Macaluso and the Hawks held a shutout streak of 448:37 minutes earlier in the season.
  • Saint Anselm is tied for sixth in the NE10 standings with a 3-3-1 record in conference play, good for a .500 win percentage and 10 points.  
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • The Yellow Jackets opened the season with wins over the College of Staten Island and Caldwell which sandwiched a tie with Mercy. They opened NE10 play with losses to Assumption and Saint Michael's before grabbing wins over Le Moyne and Stonehill. In their last time out on Oct. 2, American International fell to Adelphi.
  • Caroline Porter, Gabby Williams, and Rachel Newman have scored three goals each, accounting for nine of the 12 Yellow Jackets goals this season. Porter and Williams are tied for the team lead with seven points as they both have three goals and an assist.
  • Sydney Mercier, Frances Powers, and Jocelyn Trajkovski all have two assists for two points each. The team has registered 12 assists this season.
  • Tamra Zippin has started seven contests for the Yellow Jackets and is 4-2-1 while Sousa started the last match, falling to 0-1. Zippin has a .42 goals against average and a .850 save percentage, posting four shutouts. She has the lowest goals against and goals against average while holding the third-highest save percentage in the NE10.
  • American International sits in ninth in the conference standings with a .400-win percentage and six points.
ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • This marks the 37th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Yellow Jackets. Saint Anselm is 19-12-5 against American International.
  • The last meeting came on Oct. 12, 2019 and resulted in a 2-1 win for Saint Anselm, pushing them to three consecutive unbeaten matches.
  • Each program has posted a four-match win streak in the all-time series as the Hawks streak ran from Oct. 12, 1992 to Oct. 19, 1996. The Yellow Jackets won four consecutive matches from Sept. 10, 2010 to Sept. 20, 2014. A tie ended the win streak but aided the extension of the unbeaten streak to seven, which is the longest in the series.
