Women’s Soccer Blanks Wilmington, 3-0, Behind Flint Brace

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team scored three first-half goals on its way to a 3-0 shutout victory over Wilmington University in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Melucci Field. The Hawks remain unbeaten through their first three matches of the season with a 2-0-1 record.

Highlights
  • Freshman Scarlett Flint scored twice in the opening 20 minutes for her first multi-goal game of the season. Flint now leads the Hawks with three goals and is tied for the team lead with six points through three games.
  • Junior Amarys Jimenez assisted on both of Flint's goals, recording her first two assists of the season. Jimenez has tallied four points on one goal and two assists through two appearances.
  • Sophomore Connie Patturelli scored her second goal of the season to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage. She is tied with Flint for the team lead with six points on two goals and two assists.
  • Sophomore Nicole Schneider picked up her second assist of the season on Patturelli's goal.
  • Junior goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski made one save to record her first shutout of the season. Swidorski improves to 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average through two starts.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Wilmington, 20-8, and held a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Hawks also finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Through three games, the Hawks have outscored their opponents 10-3 and hold a 61-27 advantage in total shots.
How it Happened
  • Saint Anselm controlled the offensive pressure early, putting two shots on goal in the opening seven minutes before Flint broke through off a feed from Jimenez to give the Hawks the lead.
  • Flint doubled the advantage later in the opening half, once again connecting with Jimenez on a corner to complete her brace and put Saint Anselm ahead 2-0.
  • After entering the match as a substitute, Patturelli provided the Hawks' third goal off a long ball from Schneider to send Saint Anselm into the halftime break with a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Hawks continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, forcing Wilmington goalkeeper Bella Mazzone into five saves while firing 11 shots.
  • Wilmington managed seven second-half shots but put just one on frame. Swidorski stopped the Wildcats' lone attempt on goal to preserve the shutout.
