Women's Soccer Battles Back to Draw Jefferson, 2-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Jefferson University on Friday afternoon at Melucci Field.  

Highlights 

  • Junior Amarys Jimenez and freshman Scarlett Flint each recorded their first collegiate goals.  
  • Sophomore Connie Patturelli assisted on both Saint Anselm goals.  
  • Senior goalkeeper Maggie Warner made six saves, including five in the second half.  
  • Saint Anselm outshot Jefferson, 17-13, and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.  
  • The Hawks held Jefferson to just three shots in the opening 45 minutes while recording nine of their own.  
  • Friday marked the first meeting between the two programs since Jefferson defeated Saint Anselm, 2-1, in the Second Round of the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship at Melucci Field.  

How it Happened
The Hawks generated the pressure from the opening whistle, earning three corner kicks in the first five minutes before junior Meghan Deneen registered Saint Anselm's first shot on goal in the 15th minute.  

Jefferson opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Jalina Gonzalez tipped the ball off a cross from Tessa Hughes.  

Saint Anselm continued to control the offensive chances and finished the opening half with a 9-3 advantage in shots, but Jefferson carried its 1-0 lead into halftime.  

The Rams doubled their advantage in the 51st minute when Jane DeVoll carried the ball toward the top of the box and ripped a shot into the upper 90 past a diving Warner. 

Just 30 seconds later, the Hawks answered. Patturelli had an attempt stopped by Jefferson goalkeeper Carly Hayman before Jiminez found the back of the net of the rebound to cut the deficit to 2-1.  

Warner kept Saint Anselm within one with a pair of crucial saves less than a minute apart in the 59th minute before adding another stop in the 65th.  

The Hawks found the equalizer in the 81st minute when Patturelli connected with Flint, who took a pair of touches past her defender before firing a shot into the upper near corner for her first collegiate goal, tying the match at 2-2. 

Warner made her sixth save of the contest just over a minute after the tying goal, stopping a long-range attempt from Evelin Ventura-Garcia, as the two sides remained deadlocked through the final whistle.

Saint Anselm remains at home on Sunday, September 6 when the Hawks welcome Wilmington University (Del.) to Melucci Field. Opening kick is scheduled from 1 p.m.
