PREVIEW: Women's soccer hosts Southern New Hampshire on Thursday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's soccer team hosts No. 12 nationally Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday afternoon.

The Hawks scored two second-half goals to win their third-straight match last time out against Southern Connecticut State, improving to 8-3-1 on the season with a 6-3-1 record in NE10 play. The fifth-ranked team in the East Region, according to the United Soccer Coaches, hosts Stonehill on Saturday, Oct. 30 in the final regular season match at Melucci Field before heading to Bentley to close out the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Southern New Hampshire, then ranked sixth in the country, suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the 13th-ranked Saint Rose on Saturday, 1-0. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 12-1-1 on the year with a 10-1 mark in league contests. The Penmen host American International on Wednesday, Nov. 3 in the regular season finale.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • The Hawks found the back of the net twice on Saturday in a 2-0 win over Southern Connecticut. Junior Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) were credited with the Saint Anselm goals.
  • Gotobed registered her seventh tally on the season, which is tied for third in the conference. She sits just two goals back of the league lead. Foley now ranks second on the team with three goals scored.
  • Senior Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.) recorded an assist on the Foley goal, which was the eventual game-winner. For Pratt, that is her team-leading fifth and puts her in a tie for third in the conference.
  • Junior goalkeeper Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots on goal, setting a new-career high. Macaluso now has a 0.97 goals against average and a .778 save percentage, and has accumulated 42 saves. The junior ranks inside the top-10 in the conference in all three categories. Eight wins on the year for Macaluso is second-highest in the league.
  • The Hawks currently sit in third in the NE10 standings with a 6-3-1 record in conference play. A win in any of the final three matches will tie the 2018 squad for most wins in NE10 matches and the Hawks are looking to return to the NE10 playoffs for the first time since the 2018 season. Saint Anselm has not hosted a conference playoff match since Oct. 29, 1995.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Penmen rattled off nine consecutive wins before playing to a 1-1 draw with Mercy (N.Y.). They pushed their unbeaten streak to 13 games before falling to Saint Rose on Saturday. Southern New Hampshire held a 13-8 shot advantage over Saint Rose before the Golden Knights found the game winner with just 14 seconds left in the second overtime.
  • Alyssa Anderson and Allyson Patterson are tied for the team lead in goals with six each. Jordan Butters has found the back of the net five times.
  • Anderson leads the team in assists and points with four, totaling 16 points. Butters, Sydney Carney, and Ai Inoue are tied for second with three helpers each.
  • Z Kaplan and Hannah Rose have split time in goal as Kaplan has eight starts while Rose has the remaining six starts. Kaplan has a 0.61 goals against average and a .857 save percentage which rank second and third in the league. Rose leads the conference in goals-against average (0.32) and goals against (two). Rose has a .846 save percentage.
  • The Penmen currently sit atop the NE10 standings with a .909 win percentage. In conference play, Southern New Hampshire has outscored its opponents by a 19-5 margin.
ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • This is the 39th meeting all-time between the programs. The Penmen are 22-11-5 against the Hawks in the series.
  • In the last match, the teams played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 30, 2019. Saint Anselm captured a 1-0 win in the year prior, downing the Penmen who were the 12th-ranked team nationally at the time by a 1-0 score at Melucci Field on Sept. 12, 2018.
  • In conference matches, the teams have met 20 times with Southern New Hampshire holding a 9-7-4 edge over Saint Anselm.
