HOPKINTON, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's cross country team captured second place out of nine competing teams at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup on Saturday at Hopkinton State Park.
Saint Anselm checked in with 54 total points as its top five scorers placed between eighth and 14th. The host Ravens from Franklin Pierce University claimed first, capturing all three medalist honors and also placing fifth and sixth to accumulate 17 points.
Sophomore Trevor Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) finished eighth for the Hawks, navigating the 8K course in 26:39.52. He was trailed by sophomore Chris Hogan (Plymouth, Mass.) and his ninth-place time of 26:45.06. Tyler Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) narrowly missed the top 10 with a time of 26:54.53.
Junior Alex Horan (Clifton, Va.) was 12th with a time of 26:58.08 and freshman Steven Cormier (Reading, Mass.) rounded out the top five finishers for Saint Anselm, completing the day with a time of 27:06.09.
Sophomore Josh Nottebart (Pelham, N.H.) was a top-15 finisher for the Hawks (27:10.44) and was trailed in 16th place by senior Cole Corcoran (Braintree, Mass.) and his time of 27:16.05. Senior Tom Nelson (Gorham, Maine) was the final top-20 finisher for Saint Anselm, posting a time of 27:31.62.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Oct. 9 at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Cross Country Championship. The race will be held at Boston's Franklin Park with the men's varsity race beginning at 1 p.m.
