The Hawks downed Saint Michael's by a 1-0 score on Sept. 29. Junior
Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) converted on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to provide the lone goal of the contest. The Hawks improved to 5-1-1 on the season with a 3-1-1 record in NE10 play. Saint Anselm is slated to play three consecutive regionally-ranked opponents starting with Assumption followed by Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, Oct. 5 and at American International on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Assumption played to a scoreless draw against Bentley on Sept. 29. That marks their third consecutive draw and extends their unbeaten streak to five matches. The Greyhounds are 3-1-3 on the season with a 1-0-3 record in conference action. They remain on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Le Moyne.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm extended its unbeaten streak to five matches and has not allowed a goal since Sept. 15 against Daemen, marking 421:48 of play.
- White converted on one of two penalty kicks against Saint Michael's. Freshmen Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) fired a match-high seven shots on goal as the Hawks held a 21-6 advantage in the contest.
- The Hawks have a well-balanced offensive attack as the team has scored 12 times this season with eight different goal scorers. Sophomore Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) leads the team with three goals while junior Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) and freshman Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.) have found the net twice each.
- Senior Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.) is tied for the conference lead with three assists this season and is one of six Hawks to record at least one helper this season.
- Junior Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) has started in all seven games, holding a 5-1-1 record. She has a save percentage of .783 and a goals against average of .68. During the shutout streak, the junior has faced eight shots on goal including three in the win over Saint Michael's.
- Saint Anselm is tied for third in the conference standings with a .700-win percentage, totaling 10 points. They hold a plus-five goal differential in conference play.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
- Assumption opened the season with a win against Holy Family on Sept. 4 before falling to the Hawks in a non-conference match on Sept. 8. Since then, the Greyhounds are 2-0-3 and are 3-1-3 overall with a 1-0-3 record in league games. Julia Sferlazza and Annie Irwin led the Greyhounds with five shots each as Assumption held a 24-16 shot advantage in the tie against Bentley.
- Diana Bruggeman is tied for second in the NE10 with four goals. She has one assist for nine points. Six other student-athletes have one goal for the Greyhounds.
- Kate Carlson and Addison Davis are tied for the team lead in assists with two each. As a team, Assumption has five assists on the nine goals.
- Julia Walsh has started all seven games in goal. She is fourth in the conference in saves (37) and save percentage (.881). Walsh made 11 saves in the tie against Bentley and now has a .63 goals against average and a 3-1-3 record.
- Assumption ranks fifth in the conference with a .625-win percentage. They have accumulated six points while scoring four goals and allowing three in NE10 matches.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
- This marks the 21st meeting all-time between the Hawks and Greyhounds. Assumption holds a 10-8-2 record over Saint Anselm.
- The Hawks posted a 2-1 victory in double overtime over Assumption on Sept. 8. Gotobed posted the game winner in the 106th minute to give Saint Anselm the season opening win. Freshman Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored the contest's opening goal, marking the first of her collegiate career.
- The first meeting all-time came on Sept. 16, 1989 and resulted in a 6-0 win for the Hawks. That still stands as the largest margin of victory in the series.
- Since the Sept. 4, 2015 meeting, each contest has been decided by one goal, marking six consecutive matches.
