CONCORD, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team put together another solid performance over the weekend at the Penmen Spring Invitational hosted by Southern New Hampshire. The Hawks finished in fourth place out of eight teams with a score of +5 in the two-round tournament. Freshman
Brandon Vitarisi (Reading, Mass.) led Saint Anselm by shooting -1 through 36 holes, good for a tie in eighth place individually.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Vitarisi paced Saint Anselm with a one-under par score of 143 after two rounds. After shooting an ever par in round one, Vitarisi turned in a -1 score of 71 in round two to finish the tournament in eighth place individually in a field of 45 golfers.
- Freshman Nick Nowak (Amherst, N.H.) finished in a tie for 14th on the individual leaderboard for Saint Anselm. He wrapped up the two-round tournament with a two-over par score of 146. Nowak shot a -1 score of 71 in round one before carding a +3 score of 75 in round two.
- Freshman Riley Reardon (Woburn, Mass.) wrapped up his tournament in a tie for 14th as well after turning in a two-over par score of 146. Reardon shot a +4 score of 76 on day one, but improved by six strokes on day two with a -2 score of 70.
- Taking 20th place for Saint Anselm was freshman Nicholas Emery (Pawtucket, R.I.). He shot a four-over par score of 148 after turning in scores of +3 in round one and +1 in round two.
- Senior Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) came in a tie for 23rd place with a six-over par score of 150. Papamechail recorded a solid round one with a +2 score before finishing with a +4 score in round two.
- Wilmington (Del.) won the event with a team score of -5. Southern New Hampshire and Assumption tied for second place after each team finished with scores of +1.
- Saint Anselm finished at +5 as a team, good for fourth place out of eight competing squads. They finished higher than Bates, American International, Assumption's "B" team, and Franklin Pierce.
