WINTHROP, Mass. – Three members of the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team secured a sweep of the New England Women's Hockey Alliance weekly awards, with sophomore Nicola Forth and freshmen Kayla Lunney and Kayla Czukoski securing the honors.
Forth was named the Player of the Week after notching the first multi-point game of her career as she posted a one-goal, one-assist effort in a 4-2 non-conference loss to Dartmouth College over the weekend. Her lone goal also marked the first short-handed tally of her career. The Schwenksville, Pa. native posted a +2 on-ice rating while tallying three shots.
Lunney picked up the Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards following an impressive showing in Saturday's loss to the Big Green. The freshman recorded her first collegiate goal and assist, also marking her first career multi-point outing. The Birmingham, Mich. native logged a +2 on-ice rating with one shot and one block.
Czukoski earned her seventh weekly award of her rookie campaign, being named the Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season. Despite the non-conference setback, the freshman stood tall, making 42 saves on 46 shots over 59:28 of action. The Exton, Pa. native leads the NEWHA in saves with 708, while her .943 save percentage is tied for fourth-best in the nation with Sacred Heart's Jillian Petruno.
The Hawks enter the winter break 11-8-1 overall with an 11-2-1 in-league mark to sit atop the NEWHA standings. Saint Anselm will return to play on Friday, Jan. 9 in a NEWHA matchup against Stonehill College (8-9-1, 8-5-1 NEWHA) with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
