How it Happened
A successful coaches' challenge from Saint Anselm overturned a Franklin Pierce goal in the first period to keep things scoreless through the better part of the first period.
The Hawks would get on the board first as sophomore Nicola Forth buried a puck out in front to take a 1-0 lead with 3:39 remaining in the opening frame.
The Ravens tied things up 1:44 out of the first intermission as Melanie Targosz fired in a shot from the up top on the powerplay to make it 1-1.
The Franklin Pierce offense struck twice in the opening four minutes of the third period to take a 3-1 lead. Four minutes later, senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan tallied a short-handed goal on an individual-effort play to make it a one-goal game. The strike marked her 100th collegiate point and program-leading seventh career short-handed tally.
Less than two minutes later, sophomore Justyce Ohlgren fired in a shot from the point to tie the game at 3-3 on a feed from junior Brenna Young.
Shots were even, 3-3, through the remaining 10:28 of regulation, but both goalies stood firm to force overtime.
The Ravens outshot the Hawks, 6-0, in overtime, but sophomore goaltender Julia Matyas blanked the Franklin Pierce skaters to secure the point and force a shootout.
In the shootout, Franklin Pierce's Abigail Broz was the lone shooter to find twine to secure the second point in the standings for the Ravens.
