WINTHROP, Mass. – Two members of the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team earned New England Women's Hockey Alliance weekly honors, as senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan was tabbed Co-Player of the Week, while freshman netminder Kayla Czukoski was named the Goaltender of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Schneiderhan recorded one goal in a 2-1 win on Friday before adding four points via a two-goal, two-assist output in Saturday's 8-2 victory as the Hawks recorded a weekend sweep of LIU on home ice. Schneiderhan finished the weekend as a plus-four, with one game-winning goal to her credit. Her two goals on Saturday marked her 50th and 51st career goals, placing her tied-seventh in career goals scored in the Hawks' record book. This is Schneiderhan's second Player of the Week nod of the season.
Czukoski made 91 total saves over a weekend slate against LIU, helping the Hawks to a sweep of the Sharks to remain atop the league standings. In Friday night's 2-1 victory, the Exton, Pa. native made 48 stops before she posted 43 saves in Saturday's 8-2 triumph. She finished the weekend with a 1.50 goals against average and a .968 save percentage. This marks Czukoski's sixth weekly award of the campaign, and the first Goaltender of the Week honors of her career.
Saturday's victory for Saint Anselm marked the program's 400th win and extended its winning streak against league opponents to six games, further solidifying the Hawks' spot at the top of the NEWHA standings. Since its inception in the 2004-05 campaign, Saint Anselm boasts all-time records of 400-160-39 (.700) overall and 281-88-25 (.745) against conference opponents.
Schneiderhan, Czukoski, and the Hawks (9-6-0, 9-1-0 NEWHA) will face off against Assumption University (7-6-1, 7-2-1 NEWHA) on Friday, Nov. 21 for the first of a two-game series. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Worcester Ice Arena.
