Forth’s Tally Sends Women’s Ice Hockey Past LIU, 2-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team kicked off its weekend series against New England Women's Hockey Alliance foe LIU by earning a 2-1 victory on Friday night at Sullivan Arena, extending its winning streak against league opponents to five games.

Highlights

  • Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan and sophomore Nicola Forth recorded the Hawks' goals, with Forth's serving as the game-winner.
  • Sophomores Lucy DeCoteau and Kismet Dogan, along with freshman Lauren Waldo, each posted an assist.
  • DeCoteau went 20-for-30 (66.7%) from the faceoff dot as Saint Anselm controlled the draw (53.6%).
  • The defensive pairing of sophomore Justyce Ohlgren and junior Brenna Young each posted a +2 on-ice rating.
  • Freshman netminder Kayla Czukoski made 48 saves in her seventh victory of the season.
  • The Hawks improved to 7-14-3 in the all-time series against the Sharks, snapping a 12-game winless streak against LIU with tonight's triumph.

How it Happened

The Sharks were first on the board as Anya Weilandt found the back of the net with 3:25 to play in the opening frame. The Hawks quickly responded, as senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan scored on a rebound chance out in front to tie the score at 1-1 before the first intermission.

Midway through the second period, sophomore Nicola Forth found the back of the net on a feed from classmate Kismet Dogan to put Saint Anselm up 2-1.

Freshman goaltender Kayla Czukoski made 17 saves over the final 30 minutes of action to keep the Hawks' lead intact until the final buzzer.

The Hawks (8-6-0, 8-1-0 NEWHA) will face off against the Sharks (4-6-1, 2-6-1 NEWHA) on Saturday, Nov. 15 in game two of the weekend series. Puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
