How it Happened
The Hawks started the game aggressively and were the first on the board as sophomore Eden Granley took a nice cross-ice feed from junior Hailey Tullo and rifled the puck into the top right corner to make it 1-0 right past the eight-minute mark of the first period. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead after freshman Lauren Waldo notched her first goal of the night, knocking in a loose puck just outside the crease, before LIU got on the board to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.
Only 42 seconds into the second period, Schneiderhan put the Hawks up by a pair with a nifty tip-in goal on a shot from sophomore Lucy DeCoteau. This would kick off a scoring onslaught, which saw the Hawks adding two more goals in the second period to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Schneiderhan added an unassisted tally at the 6:01 mark before freshman Ava Hunter finished a feed from sophomore Justyce Ohlgren with seven minutes remaining in the frame.
Saint Anselm would add three more goals in the third period, including an even-strength strike for junior Alexis Poppleton and two power play goals in less than a minute coming from freshman Grace Littler and Waldo. One final LIU goal pushed the final score to 8-2.
