Schneiderhan’s OT Winner Sends Women’s Ice Hockey Past Assumption, 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan recorded the game-winning goal in overtime as the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team took down Assumption University by a final score of 4-3 on Friday night at the Worcester Ice Center, extending the Hawks' winning streak to five games.

  • Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan recorded her fourth multi-goal game, scoring once in regulation before striking in overtime. She has now registered three game-winning goals this season, bringing her career total to eight. Her 53 career goals sit tied for sixth in the program's record book with Tiffany Herron '15.
  • Freshman Taylor Buckley scored her first collegiate goal with a first-period tally.
  • Sophomore Eden Granley recorded her second goal in as many games.
  • Sophomore Lucy DeCoteau posted two assists as senior captain Cora Webber, juniors Hailey Tullo and Alexis Poppleton, and freshman Lauren Waldo each added one helper.
  • Freshman Grace Littler blocked a team-high two shots in the win.
  • Goaltender Kayla Czukoski made 47 saves over 63:14 of action in her ninth victory of her freshman campaign.
  • Saint Anselm now holds a 6-2-1 record against the Greyhounds in the all-time series, including three wins away from home.

How it Happened

Freshman Taylor Buckley opened the scoring by recording her first collegiate goal with 6:47 left in the first period. Just over a minute later, the Greyhounds responded to level the score at 1-1 at the first intermission.

Saint Anselm struck twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the final 20 minutes of regulation. Sophomore Eden Granley regained the Hawks' lead 7:53 into the second frame before senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan extended the advantage to two goals 1:12 later.

The Greyhounds scored twice in third period to send the game to overtime tied at 3-3.

With 1:46 left in the lone overtime period, Schneiderhan finished on a feed from sophomore Lucy DeCoteau to give the Hawks their fifth straight victory, and 10th conference win.

The Hawks (10-6-0, 10-1-0 NEWHA) and Greyhounds (7-7-1, 7-3-1 NEWHA) will wrap up the home-and-home on Saturday, Nov. 22, with a 3:00 p.m. puck drop scheduled from Sullivan Arena.
