COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Saint Anselm College field hockey junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wehrum was named the the NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.
Wehrum received the honor coming off a 3-0 week in the Northeast 10 Conference Championship. The Hawks take down Pace University in the quarterfinals, Adelphi University in the semifinals, and Bentley University in the title match to secure their third NE10 Championship victory and an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.
Over those three postseason contests, Wehrum posted a goals against average of 0.85, including a shutout performance in a 1-0 double overtime win at Adelphi. She tallied 11 total saves on the week and had multiple stops in the overtime periods against Bentley to help Saint Anselm back to the national tournament for the 11th time in program history.
Wehrum and the Hawks enter their NCAA Championship First Round matchup at 16-5 overall, earning the No. 6 seed. Saint Anselm will travel to Shippensburg, Pa. to take on third-seeded Shippensburg University on Saturday, Nov. 15 at noon at the Robb Sports Complex.
