No. 8 Field Hockey Bows Out of NCAA Championship with First Round Loss to No. 2 Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 8 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team was defeated in an NCAA Championship First Round contest, 3-0, by No. 2 Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon at the Robb Sports Complex.

The Hawks concluded their 2025 campaign with an 16-6 overall record.

Highlights

  • Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wehrum made seven saves while freshman Audrey Payeur was credited with one defensive save.
  • Saint Anselm was edged in corners, 8-3.
  • The Hawks were outshot 19-6 with freshman Bella DiFiore recording a team-high three shots, with one shot landing on target.
  • Saint Anselm is now 1-3 over four meetings with Shippensburg.
  • The Hawks, champions of the Northeast 10 Conference, qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 11th time, making their 10th appearance under head coach Carolyn King-Robitaille.

How it Happened

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Raiders scored twice in the final 3:08 of the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Still trailing by a pair with 5:17 left in the fourth quarter, senior Millie Forster attempted a penalty stroke which was denied by Shippensburg's Emma Albee.

The Raiders would score once more with 2:29 to play to secure the victory and advance to the NCAA semifinal round for the fifth consecutive year.
