MANSFIELD, Mass. - Senior captain
Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) and freshman
Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) of the regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team each earned spots on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team roster, as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Frano has also been named the 2023 NE10 Rookie of the Year, becoming the first Saint Anselm student-athlete in program history to receive an NE10 major award.
Frano has made an immediate impact for Saint Anselm, starting 82 sets across 23 matches she has played in this season. She leads the team with 248 kills, 59 service aces, and 0.72 aces per set. In addition to being ranked first in the conference in both aces and aces per set, Frano also currently leads all of NCAA Division II women's volleyball in both statistical categories.
Throughout her rookie year, Frano has etched her name into the Saint Anselm record books. In just her third match as a Hawk, she registered seven service aces against Edinboro on Sept. 3 at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, tying her for third all-time in single-game program history. On Oct. 6 against Pace, Frano posted a season-high 20 kills to become the second all-time leader in a three-set match for Saint Anselm. She also surpassed Renee Gillen's all-time single-season record in aces per set which was set back during the 1996 season.
Brown, who has started in every set so far this season, has a team-high 272 total kills to her name. The total marks a new career-high for the veteran outside hitter, and it additionally ranks her with the third most kills in the conference. She also leads the team in kills per set (3.06) and points (328.5) and is second on the squad in points per set (3.69), digs (237), and digs per set (2.66). The Glendale native caps off her senior season by earning her first-ever NE10 All-Conference selection in her career.
Saint Anselm fell to Bentley University, 3-2, in the NE10 Quarterfinal match on Tuesday and will await the 2023 NCAA Division II Selection Show, airing on Monday, Nov. 20, for the chance to clinch their fifth NCAA postseason appearance.
