PREVIEW: Men's ice hockey opens five-game home stand against Post

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team opens a five-game home stand with a pair of Northeast-10 Conference battles against Post University on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.

The Hawks split a pair of conference battles with Assumption University on Jan. 20 and Jan. 21. Saint Anselm dropped the first game in the two-game set by a 4-3 score before netting a 4-3 win the following day, moving to 13-8-1 on the season and 8-4-1 in conference battles. Following the pair with the Eagles, Saint Anselm will open a three-game week with a NE10 tilt against Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The Eagles suffered a 3-1 loss to Westfield State University on Jan. 24, dropping to 5-15-0 on the season. The team heads into the weekend series with a 3-9-0 record in NE10 games. Following the trip to the Hilltop, Post will head to Worcester, Mass. to battle Assumption on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Senior co-captain Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) leads the Saint Anselm offense with 20 points, coming from a team-high 11 goals and nine assists. Andary is tied for second in the NE10 in goals scored while ranking third in points.
  • Senior co-captain Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) follows closely with 19 points, good for a tie for fourth in the league. Hayes' 12 assists rank second on the team and his seven goals are fourth.
  • Senior co-alternate captain Jack Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) holds the top spot in the conference with 15 assists. Murphy's 15 points are fourth-best on the team, trailing sophomore Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) who has 16 points from nine goals and seven assists.
  • The Saint Anselm offense has nine student-athletes who have reached the double-digit point threshold this season.
  • Senior goaltender Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) was named the NE10 Goaltender of the Week on Monday after stopping 88 shots in the series with the Greyhounds, including a career-high 47 in Saturday's win. Howard ranks fourth in program history with 31 wins and is seventh in total saves (1,660).
  • Howard leads the conference in goals-against average (2.84) and saves (581) while ranking second in save percentage (0.915).
  • The Hawks have netted 10 power play goals on 75 power play chances, good for a 13.3% conversion rate. The penalty kill is operating at 86.7% having allowed 12 goals in 90 times shorthanded.
SCOUTING POST
  • Nick Weber was named the conference's Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday. Weber ranks second in the NE10 with 21 points coming from 11 goals and 10 assists. Weber's 11 goals are tied with Andary for second in the conference.
  • Patrick Murphy is third on the Eagles roster with five goals while ranking second in both assists (8) and points (13).
  • Niko Grollman is second on the team in goals with seven. Brandon Crowther and Trey Deloury are tied for third on the squad in helpers with six each.
  • Drew Blodgett has started 12 games in the goal for the Eagles. Blodgett has a 0.890 save percentage, totaling 373 saves. He holds a 4.59 goals against average.
  • The Post power play sits at 19.4%, scoring 21 times in 108 power play opportunities. The penalty kill sits at 77.4% after allowing 24 goals in 106 times shorthanded.
ALL-TIME vs. POST
  • The weekend series will mark the 14th and 15th meetings in the all-time series between the Hawks and Eagles. Saint Anselm enjoys a 12-1-0 record in the series.
  • The teams split a weekend series in Shelton, Conn. on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 with Post grabbing a 4-3 win on Nov. 4, marking its first win in the matchup all-time. Saint Anselm responded with a 3-1 win the following day.
  • When playing in Sullivan Arena, the Hawks are 5-0 all-time against the Eagles.
