MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's cross country team captured a second place finish on Saturday, opening its 2022 season at the 40th annual Philip J. Shacklette Women's Cross Country Invitational.
The Hawks finished in second place, totaling 53 points in the 8K race to trail the team winner, Southern New Hampshire, and its 20 points. Saint Michael's rounded out the three-team field with 66 points. The Penmen had six of the top 10 individual finishers en route to the victory.
Freshman Andrew Keene (Kennebunk, Maine) had an outstanding debut race for Saint Anselm, producing a sixth-place finish of 28:56. Classmate Neil Harrington (Malden, Mass.) was also strong in his debut, earning seventh place with a time of 29:13.
Senior Alex Horan (Clifton, Va.) checked in with a 12th-place time of 29:32 with juniors Tyler Scopelites and Trevor Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) checking in with times of 29:47 and 29:50, rounding out the sub-30 minute finishers and point scorers for Saint Anselm.
Juniors Josh Nottebart (Pelham, Mass.), Chris Hogan (Plymouth, Mass.), Patrick Kennedy (Milton, Mass.) and Adam Wong (Westminster, Mass.) finished in order, starting with Nottebart's 15th place time of 30:02. Hogan completed the circuit in 30:31 with Kennedy (30:34) and Wong (30:44) to follow.
Sophomore Steven Cormier (Reading, Mass.) was 19th (30:57) and senior Tom Nelson (Gorham, Maine) was 21st (31:56). Freshman Christian Wetzel (Pembroke, Mass.) navigated the course in 32:11.
Freshmen Thomas Sullivan (Arlington, Va.) and Brandon LeBlanc (Wrentham, Mass.) cracked the top-25 with sophomore Nick Longo (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Andrew Pitney (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior Liam Reeve (Kittery, Maine) rounding out the field.
Southern New Hampshire's Jacob Logan, a third-place finisher at the 2021 running of the Shacklette Invitational, took first on Saturday with a time of 27:55.
