HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's and women's cross country team competed at the Southern New Hampshire University Last Chance Conference Qualifier on Saturday at Penmen Stadium.
Saint Anselm finished fourth on both the men's and women's sides. The Hawks traditionally compete in just cross country in the fall, but Saint Anselm will field men's and women's track & field programs in the spring.
Freshman Trevor Scopelites (Litchfield, N.H.) placed second in the 1,500-meter race, posting a time of 4:17.76. He was trailed by fourth-place finisher Cole Corcoran (Braintree, Mass.), whose time of 4:19.63 was less than a second faster than freshman Chris Hogan (Plymouth, Mass.) and his fifth place time of 4:20.58.
Freshman Alex Horan (Clifton, Va.) clocked in with a time of 16:48.09 in the 5,000 meter. Seven women's entries from Saint Anselm completed the 5,000-meter race, led by Dominique Engle () and her time of 18:49.94. Engle's time was the ninth-fastest among Northeast-10 Conference performers this season.
Freshman Courtney Grzybinski (Holbrook, Mass.) was fifth (19:19.22) in the 5,000-meter race and junior Ailish Husband (Plymouth, Mass.) was sixth with a time of 19:27.47.
Freshman Kaitlyn Boles (Bedford, N.H.) led Saint Anselm in the 800-meter race, finishing with a time of 2:36.69 to rank fourth out of 11 competitors. She also contributed with a third-place time in the 1,500 meter, clocking in at 5:11.21.
Freshman Marin Provencher (Cumberland, Maine) was fifth in the 1,500-meter (5:15.91) and was followed by Ellen Duane (Braintree, Mass.) and her sixth-place time of 5:19.58.
The foursome of sophomore Liam Reeve (Kittery, Maine), Scopelites, Corcoran and Hogan competed in the 4x400 relay, the first of the season for Saint Anselm, placing third with a time of 3:39.66. The foursome of Boles, Catherine Seibold (Stoneham, Mass.), Lian Smithers (Providence, R.I.) and Jane Harrington (Melrose, Mass.) turned in a 4x400 time of 4:45.61.
Both programs will return to action at the NE10 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, starting Thursday, May 6 in Springfield, Mass.
