Saint Anselm, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II, is coming off a narrow 1-0 overtime loss to No. 3-ranked Assumption on Tuesday. The Greyhounds tipped home the game-winner just 3:34 into the first overtime period, lifting the top ranked team in the East Region to the one-goal victory over Saint Anselm.
New Haven comes into play with a 9-8 overall record and a 9-4 mark against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The team is fresh off a 4-1 victory over Mercy (N.Y.) on Wednesday, snapping what once was a three-game losing skid – the Chargers took on three consecutive nationally-ranked opponents.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm had won six consecutive games before its loss to No. 3 Assumption last time out. The Hawks enter play on Friday with a 13-4 overall record and a 10-3 mark versus league opponents.
- The shots against the Greyhounds were even at nine apiece – the Hawks have not been outshot since a 2-1 loss at Adelphi on Oct. 4. On the year, the Hawks have only allowed 78 shots on net while firing 182 on target down the other end of the field.
- Junior Maeve Murphy (Scituate, Mass.) logged a single-game high five points against the Chargers in the earlier non-league tilt between both teams, the most by any Saint Anselm student-athlete against any opponent this year. She scored twice against the Chargers and added an assist in her team's 4-1 road win.
- Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) had a four-game point scoring streak earlier this year. On the season, she has nine goals and two assists for 20 points (9-2=20) and ranks fourth all-time with 67 career points to her credit (29-9=67).
- Saint Anselm has posted 28 shutouts (eight this season) in the team's last 41 games since the start of the 2019 season. The Hawks finished the year as the national runner-up in NCAA Division II and set a record for shutouts in a season (20), winning each of their games without conceding a goal.
NEW HAVEN NOTES
- Freshman Abby Nixon had six points to lead New Haven past Mercy (N.Y.) on Wednesday. She had a hand in all four of her team's goals, scoring two assists and tallying two goals in the second half en route to the victory.
- Nixon leads the team with seven goals and five assists for 19 points (7-5=19). Sophie Schreck ranks second with six goals and two assists for 14 points (6-2=14) and is followed by two Chargers with 12 points apiece.
- New Haven ranks eighth in NCAA Division II with a .797 save percentage, thanks to Keira Integlia's percentage of .794. She ranks ninth in the NE10 with 5.88 saves per game and has the seventh-best goals-against average in the league (1.49).
- The Chargers are led by Kelsi Lykens, who was named the first coach in team history in 2017. New Haven is in just their fourth full season of competition and has steadily improved – at 9-8 entering play on Friday, the Chargers are above .500 this late in the season for the first time.
ALL-TIME vs. NEW HAVEN
- Saint Anselm is 4-0 against New Haven in the all-time series, outscoring the Chargers by a combined 26-1 margin.
- New Haven fell to Saint Anselm earlier this season by a 4-1 margin in non-league play.
- Against the Chargers on Sept. 5, freshman Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) won her debut in a Hawks uniform, finishing with eight saves on nine shots. With an eight-save debut, Falterer posted the most saves by a Hawks goalkeeper in her collegiate debut since Katherine Sears '17 halted eight shots against American Int'l on Oct. 5, 2013.
