MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team fell to No. 5 Bentley University, 1-0, in Northeast 10 Conference action on Saturday at Melucci Field.
The Hawks and Falcons played to a scoreless opening 45 minutes before Bentley broke the deadlock in the 79th minute. Saint Anselm finished even with Bentley with 14 shots and placed five attempts on goal.
Highlights
- Junior goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski made six saves in the contest, including four in the second half.
- Sophomore Connie Patturelli and junior Amarys Jimenez each recorded three shots to lead the Hawks. Patturelli put two attempts on goal, while Jimenez registered one.
- Freshman Scarlett Flint provided a pair of shots off the bench, placing both attempts on goal.
- Saint Anselm generated eight of its 14 shots in the second half and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks after halftime.
- The Hawks and Falcons finished even at 14 shots apiece, while Bentley held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
How it Happened
Saint Anselm recorded the first opportunity of the afternoon in the sixth minute off the foot of sophomore Madison Botta. Patturelli followed with an attempt in the eighth minute that went over the crossbar.
Swidorski made her first save in the 14th minute, denying Sydney DeRoche to keep the match scoreless.
Jimenez registered the Hawks' first shot on goal in the 27th minute, but Bentley goalkeeper Holly DiPalo made the save.
The Falcons generated pressure late in the opening half, but Swidorski stopped Evelyn Beers in the 43rd minute as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
Patturelli forced a save from DiPalo in the 51st minute before Swidorski answered with a stop on Cami Ayandele less than four minutes later.
Bentley broke through at the 78:02 mark when Abi Hennessey fired a shot from the top right of the box past a diving Swidorski off a through ball from McKay Pratt to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks responded with three shots on goal over the final 11 minutes. Flint forced saves in the 80th and 88th minutes, while Patturelli put an attempt on frame in the 86th minute, but Saint Anselm could not find the equalizer.
