PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College football team fell to Pace University, 44-3, in its Northeast 10 Conference opener on Saturday at Northwell Stadium.

Highlights

• Sophomore Tyler Villalta recorded 185 all-purpose yards, including 49 rushing yards, three receiving yards and 133 kickoff return yards.
• Senior Jon Hosney led the Saint Anselm defense with nine total tackles.
• Junior Dangelo Innamorato recorded eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
• Sophomore James Pepper Jr. added seven tackles, including one tackle for loss and one sack.
• Senior Michael Guarnieri connected on a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
• Saint Anselm recorded four sacks, with Pepper Jr., Joe Marino, Tommy Falasca Jr., and Phoenix Whitaker each recording one.

How it Happened

Pace opened the scoring with a 10-play, 78-yard drive, capped by an eight-yard touchdown run from Tray Mauney with 4:47 remaining in the first quarter. The Setters added a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mauney to Gary Wilkins early in the second quarter before converting a Saint Anselm interception into a three-yard Ethan Lopez touchdown run.

The Hawks answered late in the half, putting together an 11-play, 40-yard drive that ended with senior Michael Guarnieri connecting on a 28-yard field goal as time expired, sending Saint Anselm into halftime trailing 21-3.

Pace added a safety early in the third quarter before scoring touchdowns on three of its next four possessions to pull away. The Setters finished with 399 yards of total offense, while the Hawks were held to 169 yards. Saint Anselm's defense recorded four sacks and forced two turnovers, but Pace secured the 44-3 victory.
